I asked him what the difference was between this method and the official launch control - part of the Sport Chrono package, right? - and he told me that that package revved the engine higher than this built-in method. I'd guess there was a delay of about half a second, and the car sped off. In any case, at the start of the braking-test area, he had me press on the brake a bunch (technical term) with my left foot, and hold it, and then floor the gas with my right, and then let off the brake. I didn't notice whether Sport mode was on, but I'm guessing it was. our Macan S, waiting to be driven away by us later that day. When we had our track time at Atlanta PEC a month ago, the instructor had me do this in the demo car. From the driver's seat it feels like the SC (sport +) is much, much more violent than the one in sport mode. I would love to hear opinions from those that are more mechanically inclined than I on whether this would hurt the transmission more than a SC launch control. I would wager that with AS tires (obviously this is probably different with summers) the Sport mode launch might be very close if not better than the SC launch. I would like do a few 0-60 and 1/4 mile times at the strip in October and compare 1) boost psi during the revs in the different launch modes, 2) 0-60mph, 3) 60 ft, 4)1/4 mile, 5) ET etc. However, this feels like the clutch is disengaged at 3500 rpm (car doesn't want to creep forward while you're pressing the brake), so I would wager this is a toned down version of the actual launch mode.

My initial thoughts during previous discussions was that people were referring to brake torquing, like in a standard auto, which I didn't think was possible in a DCT and would mess up the clutch during revving.
#STRIPPA LOVE LAUNCHCONTROL MANUAL#
Also, I have not tested this in manual mode. This works with TC on as well, all you do is press the port button. Note: You do NOT need to turn TC off to get this. I would describe this as similar to the BMW launch control (non-M cars) in terms of overall experience. There DOES appear to be a launch control "feature" that you can activate using the following steps.ġ) Drive the car until operating temperatureģ) Depress the brake all the way down (IMPORTANT: firmly but slow/smooth so you do not activate the HOLD function)Ĥ) Floor the gas pedal all the way past kick down (Flinstone it)ĥ) The car revs to 3500 rpm (without the loud exhaust/ rumbling sound, and you do not get a launch control light) So I decided to see if this works on the turbo, because the LC on sport + is IMHO super violent and has caused excessive wheel spin (in the few times I tried it when I was running older AS tires with 20K miles on them). Several members have alluded to a "hidden LC" function or "PMLC" that is available in sport mode in the Macan S. I have sport chrono and the launch mode in sport + does the following things: 1) Shows you a "launch control active" yellow display, 2) Takes rpm to 5000, 3) gives you a LOUD pulsating exhaust note with what sounds like thumping and misfires (it sounds pretty bad a$$).

So, I figured I would further elucidate what this might mean, and what the Macan Turbo (and probably the S/GTS) appears to be programmed to do.

This has been discussed here a long time ago (twice), but I wasn't entirely clear on the situation when I read the threads.
